Croft has doubts over Lions

Eyeing Argentina: Tom Croft

Tom Croft has talked down the chance of him making the 2013 British & Irish Lions tour and instead expects to be targeting an England touring place.

Leicester back-row Croft, who was excellent for the Lions against South Africa in 2009, has not played Test rugby for almost a year due to injury.

The 27-year-old returned to club rugby last month and was also named in England's Elite Player Squad, but does not think a Lions spot is likely.

"There's a Lions tour of Australia and an England tour to Argentina," Croft told the Rugby Paper.

"My goal is probably to get on that England tour. After the injury I've had, if I could squeeze in a Six Nations match or two that would be a bonus.

"Then, if I can have a good run of form, I might get a call for Argentina."

Don't forget those 2Rs who "can play 6", such as Launchbury and Lawes.

He'd be better off playing for England in the summer and starting every game than scraping a Lions place and playing midweek games (possibly as a sub).

Great player but does need game time.

@melkdave

Agree about all those players. Although there is still time for those players to make an impression (especially Ferris as he has the Heineken cup to make an impression in) it's probably too late for them. Good thing we've got so many options in the back-row though. Losing 4 quality players in some years would have been disastrous. Now we still have the likes of Wood, Robshaw, Brown, O'Brien, Henry and Tipuric to choose from. My current lions backrow would probably be 6) Wood, 7) Robshaw, 8) O'Brien.

i agree with you melkdave, on all those players. however i think that some of them (lydiate and ferris mainly) would be more selected on potential/reputation than on how much they have played.

i think guys who havent had enough game time can't be considered, unless they are already performing at 100% when they are back.

Afaid his right in his expectations ,just hasnt had the game time so far,to make any challange for a Lions place,which is a shame ,but then the same can be said about D.Lyidgate,S.Ferris,and R.Rennie .Who where all potential Lions earlier in the season.
