Wallabies flanker David Pocock looks likely to be ruled out of the Test series against the British and Irish Lions later this year due to a serious knee injury.
The Brumbies openside was forced off the field during Saturday's Super Rugby derby with the Waratahs with a suspected anterior cruciate ligament injury to his knee.
Scans will reveal more details but the initial diagnosis is not good. The standard recovery time for similar ACL injuries is six months.
Pocock was replaced by former Wallabies and Brumbies stalwart George Smith, who made his first Super Rugby appearance since leaving Canberra in 2010.

You read to much of your own press. I'll give you a heads up so you're not too disappointed with another loss.
"And the australian pack is week"
or do you mean weak, as in, the second string Wallaby pack that beat England and Wales this year in the UK !!!
Australia will use the Lions as a warm up and bleed some new blood in prep for the rugby championship !

Get well soon, D. Pocock. It's sad for any player when it comes to injuries but there is hope. He needs to recover really well this time. I put the blame on Wallabies coach R. Deans for this because he did not give D. Pocock enough recovery time. Realistically, it will be hard for D. Pocock now because L. Gill and M.Hooper are now better players than him in terms of performances.

jonesrp- Because he'll probably never get the opportunity to play against them again you moron. Everyone gets a once in a lifetime opportunity to celebrate their 21st birthday, doesn't mean its going to be the best thing ever, it just means that you'll never have the chance to do it again.

George Smith is already there to replace Pocock. He is a better option than young Michael Hooper. G.Smith outclassed him on the game last night (Brumbies vs Waratahs). Smith is still a world class player.

Why is playing against the Lions a `once in a lifetime opportunity` ?..when did they last win a series ?..better for Pocock to rest up for important tests later.

Waz4before: Oz have a handful of speecialist world class 7s so no change and hard not to choose OBrien after what he's done vs Oz and in 6 nations. As for captaincy don't chose Lions 7 as he will have his work cut out on field and struggle for selection. Most secure starters are Best, Healy, Halfpenny and maybe Gray if not too badly injured. Of those perhaps Best should be captain with decision making input from leaders who get selected if they do of: bod robs' warb' sexton etc

Well sad news for australia but great for the lions. Pocock and genia make the australian team. I believe danny care is the best 9 in europe with his vision, pace and quick ball. He is a lot like genia but not as good as him yet. But im sure care can put up a fight with genia on the lions tour. If pocock is out then robshaw although not a break down 7 is a great presence around the pitch and a very good ball carrier. And the australian pack is week. Sam needs to play well for wales vs scotland and england or robshaw is whithout a doubt a shoe in. Sam is a completely differnt 7 to robshaw and on his day he is also like pocock. See what happens but at the mo robshaw for 7 and captain.
And thats coming from a welsh boy.

Sad news for wallaby and Lions fans in equal measure.I to want Australias best players to be playing,if possible, just as i want the best Lions squad to tour. The wallabies do have very able replacements though in M.Hooper and L.Gill.They may not be as polished as D.Pocock at poaching,But both offer other qualitiesjust as dangerous to the Lions .

Well, that shoots the Celtic fox that "we need a specialist 7" .....Robshaw for 7 on current form!

As a Lions fan, I'm gutted. I want the tour to be glittered with Australia's best stars so it saddens me when it's top players are ruled out. Hopefully Genia returns, and Pocock recovers swiftly

a big shame, if true. however, hooper proved in the november tests that he's a quality openside. might not be quite as good on the deck but he arguably offers more around the field than pocock. Lions will have their hands full either way

I hope it's not as serious as they're thinking as I love watching him play. Would be a shame for a great player like that to miss such a once in a life time opportunity.
