Was a great player in his day. Truly magnificent. This retirement is two years overdue. Repeated injuries took their toll. It was obvious that going into the RWC a strong gust of wind would cause an injury.
We need another young Flannery... great line out, great scrummager, quality ball carrier if not the most dynamic in running or offload.
Closest to this imo is Strauss (when he is Irish qualified)

He was always the best Irish hooker since wood (irony much), but this is the right call...he's been out far too long and I doubt at the age of 33 he'd be going for a comeback,..not with the WC 4 years away...

Jerry Flannery... the epitome of Munster Rugby, tough, determined, and energetic. A sad loss.
Good luck Jerry.

What a shame, I always rated Flannery highly. I wish him the best of luck with whatever he turns his hand to next.

This is sad news, but somewhat expected. Thanks Jerry for the great performances you gave over the years, I've always enjoyed watching you play. All the best in the future.
